SPEED IS A SKILL. WE TEACH IT.
Sprint Surge is a youth performance academy in Auburn, Sydney, built on one idea: most young athletes are slow because nobody has ever taught them how to run.
MEET COACH HUSS
Biomechanical Speed Coach · Founder of Sprint Surge
I came into this from medicine, not from a whistle and a clipboard. My degree is in podiatric medicine, and I have spent more than eight years working in sports biomechanics — studying how the foot, ankle, knee and hip actually produce and absorb force when a body moves at speed.
What I kept seeing was the same thing over and over. Kids who trained constantly. Kids whose parents were spending real money on clubs and camps and extra sessions. And not one of them had ever been told how to run properly.
They were running on their heels. Swinging their arms across their body. Dropping their head. Never lifting a knee. Every single stride was throwing away speed they already had — and no amount of running laps was going to fix it, because effort was never the problem.
So I built Sprint Surge to fix the thing everyone else skips.
THE CREDENTIALS BEHIND THE COACHING
PODIATRIC MEDICINE
A university degree in podiatric medicine — the clinical study of the foot and lower limb, where every sprint stride begins and ends.
8+ YEARS IN THE FIELD
Over eight years working in sports biomechanics, analysing how athletes move and correcting the faults that cost them performance.
100+ YOUNG ATHLETES
More than a hundred kids coached through the Sprint Surge method across soccer, league, union, AFL, athletics and more.
1-ON-1 TRIAL, THEN YOUR PROGRAM
Your first session is one-on-one. From that assessment we build a program specific to your athlete, which they then train in our group sessions.
ASSESS. CORRECT. LOAD. TRANSFER.
Four stages, in this order. Skipping straight to conditioning is why most speed training does not work.
ASSESS
We film your child running and break the footage down frame by frame. Foot strike, shin angle, hip position, arm path, head carriage. We find the specific fault.
CORRECT
We rebuild the pattern with drills that isolate the fault, using cues a kid can actually remember. This is the stage almost every program skips.
LOAD
Once the pattern is clean, we add force. Age-appropriate strength and power work so the athlete can put more into the ground without technique falling apart.
TRANSFER
Speed in a straight line is worth nothing if it disappears in a game. We finish with sport-specific acceleration, cutting and reactive work.
WEBBS AVENUE PARK, AUBURN
All Sprint Surge sessions run outdoors on grass at Webbs Avenue Park in Auburn, NSW 2144 — open space, proper running surface, and room to sprint at full speed.
Sessions run for 60 minutes. Your first is one-on-one so we can assess properly; after that your athlete trains their own program inside our group sessions. Parents are welcome to stay and watch, and most do.
